A boundary drawn

around a bowl of matcha.

KEKKAI is a boundary drawn around what a bowl of matcha should be.

Every tea we sell — its region, its blend, its independent testing — is disclosed.
The tin that holds our ceremonial grade was made by hand at an Asakusabashi workshop making tin vessels since 1895.

Independently tested.

Every batch of our matcha is independently tested for lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, and aluminum. Samples are submitted to Eurofins Food Testing Japan in Yokohama and analyzed at Eurofins WEJ Contaminants GmbH in Hamburg, Germany — an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory. All results are published in full.

Aluminum is not required by regulation. We include it because complete disclosure is another boundary we chose to draw.

The tin was made by hand.

By Kato Seisakusho, an Asakusabashi workshop making tin vessels since 1895. One of only two workshops in Japan that still crafts the inner lid by hand.

The tins are formed, sprayed and printed by hand at the workshop.
